Beyond the Lab Coat

Picture
Yes, I often wear a lab coat. However,  I am more frequently found doing science in a parka, life jacket, helmet or harness.  A classic activity is to have people draw their image of a 'scientist' - you often end up with drawings of men with wild hair, in lab coats, holding beakers of bubbling liquids. You know, the classic wacky scientist. Well, here are some pictures of real life science. Yes, many scientists work in the lab, but many of us are also pretty wacky (and fun!) outside of the confines of the lab, where much of our research takes place.

Another common misconception (or often forgotten fact) is that scientists are real people too! Surprising, right?  When I am not 'being a scientist', I am a wife, daughter, friend, skier, rock climber, cook and dog lover (among many other things). I hope you e
njoy some of these moments, when life, and my research, took me (well) beyond my lab coat.
